The short history of the Baptist Church in Namibia is that Rev. Charles Whitson, American missionary, brought the Baptist Church to Namibia in 1967 in the towns of Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, and Windhoek. Later on, the Baptist church spread in the northern town of Oshakati under the leadership of the late Rev.Edmund Hifindwako Kandume. In the year 1982, the Baptist church was established in the town of Rundu, Namibia, by Rev. Kandume, with American missionary Rev. Carlos Owens, and Rev. Moses Tololi. In early 1986, the Namibian Baptist Church got a new name called Bantu Baptist Church of Namibia, after Namibian Independence on September 19, 1997. Later on, the Baptist Council at the time established and came up with a new name, the Baptist Convention of Namibia, with a new management. On May 1, 2009, a new name was established under the authority of the National Baptist Convention of Namibia.
